About the Department:

Mathematics is an essential discipline in today’s world. It is a powerful tool for understanding the world around us and our perspective of the important issues facing us as individuals, families, businesses, and nations. Math surrounds us; we see and use math skills and capabilities every day–from balancing our checkbooks to advertising agencies to doctors; from retailers to builders, lawyers and accountants. Everyone needs some level of specific mathematics knowledge.

The Department of Mathematics started along with the institute (2006). As Mathematics is the most basic of sciences and the backbone of all engineering disciplines, the department started to shape the young engineers of the region since the inception of the institute. The department initially catered to the needs of Under Graduate Engineering Mathematics. In 2009, the institute introduced Post Graduate Programme, namely the Master of Computer Applications. In 2014, Post Graduate Engineering Mathematics, namely Master of Technology was introduced which includes variety of courses in the areas of Linear Algebra and Optimization, Applied Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics and Statistics. The institute started the Under Graduate Programme in Mathematics along with Physics and Chemistry in 2020. The department is committed to provide a stimulating teaching environment for the undergraduate students of the department, improving the quality of students so that they take interest to the higher studies. From 2023, the department started M. Sc. and PhD programme in Mathematics. Prospective students are encouraged to join the Ph. D Programme in Algebra and Fluid Mechanics.
