3-day summer training on Electronic System Design The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a 3 – day Summer Training on Electronics System Design for Class VIII- XII from 04-06-2022. The students learned about the fundamentals of Electronics Circuit Designing with hands on experience in the understanding of electronics components and measuring equipment.

Project presentation by students of ECE department at Institute of Engineers, Guwahati Two final year students from the department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati Akashdeep Borthakur and Sankar Boro participated in the project presentation at Institute of Engineers, Guwahati on 27-062022. The students have presented their Arduino based project on Surveillance System at Institute of Engineers.

One day visit at GIMT Guwahati from Assam Engineering Institute. The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one-day visit of students from Assam Engineering Institute, Guwahati on 05-05-2022, to introduce the facilities at the department which can help them to enhance their technical skills.
Alumni- Student Interaction The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a Alumni-student interaction session on 05-052022. Two Alumni from the department of 2015-19 batch Ms. Dolly Gohain, Coordinator and Marketing Head at MSME – Tool room and training centre & Ms. Shreoshee Roy Choudhury, Senior Systems Engineer, Infosys interacted with the students to help them understand how the department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati contributed to the upliftment of their careers in the respective field.

Visit to Garbhanga Village as a part of social – academic responsibility The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one – day visit to Garbhanga Village on 06-042022 as a part of Social – Academia responsibility. The department under the aegis of the program donated books for the school library and a computer to aid the computer literacy of Garbhanga LP school. The department of ECE students also did surveys with the people of the village on health, education, employment etc, and assured to work on the issues for possible solutions.

Webinar on “Basic Tenets of Research Writing: Issues and Challenges,” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati and Department of Mathematics, GIMT Tezpur organised a one-day webinar on “Basic Tenets of Research Writing: Issues and Challenges,” under the CRS of TEQIP-III projects (MHRD), 8th September, 2020. Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Dept of Electrical Engg, MNIT, Jaipur and Dr. Hemanga Dutta were invited as the speakers of the event.

Webinar on “Awareness on Training and Placement Activities Post Covid 19 Lockdown” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one-day webinar on “Awareness on Training and Placement Activities Post Covid 19 Lockdown”. The speaker of the session was Mr. Sourab Barua, T&P Coordinator, GIMT Guwahati. In the interactive session all the coordinators of Career Development Cell, GIMT, Guwahati took part and answers the queries forwarded by the participants.

Webinar on “Career Perspectives for engineering students post COVID-19” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one-day webinar on “Career Perspectives for engineering students post COVID-19” on July 18th, 2020 in association with Assam Science and Technology University, under TEQIP-III (MHRD). The introductory speech was delivered by Prof. Thuleswar Nath, Principal, GIMT. Prof. Sunandan Baruah, DEAN, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, ADTU highlighted the key points regarding opportunities and Challenges post COVID-19 for engineering students. Dr. Nripen Das, Registrar, ASTU delivered a talk on New Perspectives for engineering students post COVID-19 and Mr. Soumen Das, Director, T.I.M.E, Guwahati spoke on the topic “Various alternatives for engineering students post COVID-19”.

Webinar on “Importance of NBA Accreditation for students going to pursue engineering” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one -day webinar on “Importance of NBA Accreditation for students going to pursue engineering” on 19th July 2020. The webinar was coordinated by Mr. Agnimitra Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati and NBA joint coordinator GIMT Guwahati.

“3–day online workshop on application of Matlab and Simulink” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a “3-day online workshop on “Application of Matlab and Simulink” from 15th to 17th June, 2020. The speaker and coordinator of the workshop was Mr. Agnimitra Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati.

5–day webinar on “Strategies for Mental and Physical Health Protection During & Aftermath Pandemic: # COVID 19” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a 5-day webinar on “Strategies for Mental and Physical Health Protection During & Aftermath Pandemic: # COVID 19” from 17th -21st July,2020 in association with Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU), under TEQIP-III (MHRD). The coordinator of the webinar was Ms. Namrata Kataki, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati. The invited speakers were Ms. Chandana Bhuyan (Psychologist), Ms. Ankita Borthakur (Yoga Therapist), Dr. Rubi Kataki (Professor, regional Dental college, social activist, writer)

“Approach and preparation needed for Common Admission Test (CAT) and MBA” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one-day webinar on the topic “Approach and preparation needed for competitive exams” on 26th June, 2020. The webinar was coordinated by Mr. Basab Das, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati. The invited speaker was Mr. Lengdon Rajkhowa, Manager HRM, Tata Steel. He was also an alumnus of IIM Ranchi.

“Approach and preparation needed for competitive exams” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a one-day webinar on the topic “Approach and preparation needed for competitive exams” on 29th June, 2020. The webinar was coordinated by Ms. Atlanta Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati. The invited speaker was Mr. Hamen Sarma, educator, entrepreneur with an experience of working Govt. and private sector.

Webinar on “Scopes and opportunities for Electronics and Communication Engineering” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a webinar on “Scopes and opportunities for Electronics and Communication Engineering” on 9th May, 2020 for the engineering aspirants. Two of our students- Ms. Ankita Goswami and Ms. Barnali Das of 6th semester highlighted different aspects of engineering in ECE.

Webinar on “How to prepare for GRE/ TOEFL/ IELTS” The department of ECE organized a one-day webinar on the topic “How to prepare for GRE/ TOEFL/ IELTS” on 23rd May, 2020. The invited speaker of the program was Ms. Anupriya Sahu, Research Intern, the State University of New York, Buffalo, New York, USA. Miss Sahu is an alumnus of department of ECE, GIMT-Guwahati (Batch 2015-2019).

Academic Lecture by Industry Experts-II #” “Scopes and Opportunity of Electronics and Communication Engineer in Indian Navy: Technical and General Overview” The training and placement cell, ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized the academic lecture -II on 12th February, 2020 on the topic “Scopes and opportunity of Electronics and Communication Engineer in Indian Navy: Technical and General Overview” in association with Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU), under TEQIP-III (MHRD). The lecture was organized to give the students about the scope and opportunities of Electronics and Communication Engineer in Indian Navy. Dr. (Prof.) Capt(IN) (Retd.). M. Ramasubramanium (B.Sc (AS), B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MSc., Ph.D (Robo), Ph.D (Psy)), presently visiting professor in PSG college of Technology was the resource person of the event. Mr. Basab Das hosted the event.

Academic Lecture by Industry Experts-I An academic lecture by Industry Expert was organized by the training & placement cell of the Electronics and Communication Engineering department at GIMT- Guwahati premise on 28th of August, 2019 Wednesday from 1 p.m. onwards in Room Number 512. The 7th semester students of the ECE department participated in the lecture. The lecture was organized with the objective to give the students an idea about the recent advancement in the telecommunication and digital communication field of Electronics and Communication engineering. Mr. Sankuraj Borah, Lead Talent Management and HR Operations working in reliance Jio Infocommunications Limited (North East India) was the resource person invited for the event.

5-day FDP on “Application of LABVIEW in Technical Education and Research” The department of ECE, GIMT Guwahati organized a 5-day FDP on “Application of LABVIEW in technical education and research” from 28th January to 1st February, 2019 in association with Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU), under TEQIP-III (MHRD). The participants were faculty members, Research Scholars, Industrialists, technical staffs of various institute of entire north-east.

5-Day Workshop On “VLSI and Embedded systems”
The department of ECE, GIMT–Guwahati organized a 5-day workshop on “VLSI and Embedded Systems” from 19th to 23rd June, 2017. The objective of the workshop is to impart training in design, implementation and testing of embedded system and VLSI design system to the people engaged in teaching, research, industries to enhance their knowledge level in the fields of microcontroller and VLSI design. The invited resource persons were Prof. Santosh Biswas (Dept of CSE, IIT Guwahati), Prof. Roy Paily Palathinkal (Dept of EEE, IIT-Guwahati), Mr. Sandeep P( Ph.D scholar, dept of EEE, IITGuwahati), Mr. Gitu Das ( Assistant Professor ( Dept of EEE, Assam Don Bosco University). A one-day symposium on “Ideas & Innovation: Meeting Global Challenges” A one-day symposium “Ideas & Innovation: Meeting Global Challenges” was organized by the department of ECE at GIMT premises on 21st December, 2016 (Wednesday) from 9.45 am onwards in Room No. 512. The symposium was organized with the objective of giving an idea about the recent advances in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering. Two resource persons were invited for the event. Dr. Nayan Moni Kakoty, Associate Professor from Tezpur University was the first speaker of the event. His topic was “Robotic System in Health care: Innovation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” He presented some idea about the immense role of robots in the healthcare sector. Dr. Amrita Ganguly, Associate Professor from Assam Engineering College was the next speaker. Her topic was “Fast Algorithms for Video compression standard H.264/AVC: The need of the hour.” She put a glance on the overwhelming need of various video compression techniques in data and signal processing. ➢ SEPTEMBER
Quizotronics A departmental quiz “QUIZOTRONICS” was conducted by the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering on Engineers’ Day (15/09/16). There was a prelim round which was held on 12/09/16 amongst the 3, 5 and 7 semester students of ECE department. A total of 6(six) groups were shortlisted for the mains which was held on 15/09/16 The mains consisted of three rounds with both technical and non-technical (current affairs) questions. Out of the six groups, there was a tie among three groups. Two tie- breakers were used to decide the winner and runners-up. A special mention of the tie-breaker is to show that there was tuff competition amongst the groups. The students were highly motivated as cash prize along with certificates were given. On the coming academic years, we tend to organise the quiz on a large scale as the students showed tremendous interest in it. Results of the quiz competition: Winner team: Tanay Jyoti Das. 3-Day Workshop On “Emerging Trends & Scope of Electronics & Communication Engineering”
The 3-day workshop on “Emerging Trends & Scope of Electronics & Communication Engineering” organized by the Department of ECE, GIMT-Guwahati from 8th to 10th September, 2016 was intended with the objective to provide organized know-how to the participants on a diverse range of topics focusing on the recent advances and scope of electronics & communication engineering. Starting with the basic concepts and rudimentary familiarization, the workshop provided in-depth know-how on some of the applications in few selected areas of electronics & communication engineering. The idea and motive of this workshop was to promote academic, research and professional experience of experts in various domains of electronics and communication engineering. It was organized to encourage students for newer innovation, and to provide an incubation platform for researchers and students to indulge in advance study and research in these areas. In addition to this, the participants also got an opportunity for hands-on experience on recent tools and technologies in the sessions conducted by Brigosha Technologies Private Limited.
